Civil Society Coalition against Torture and impunity in Tajikistan
On 11 July in Khujand and 15 July in Dushanbe, the NGO “Human Rights Center” and the PF “Legal Initiative” will convene roundtables to discuss priority areas and practical cooperation in the field of prison reform in the Republic of Tajikistan through 2030.
The purpose of these events is to develop proposals and recommendations from civil society representatives for the draft Action Plan for 2026–2030 aimed at implementing the Strategy for the Reform of the Penal System of the Republic of Tajikistan for the period up to 2030.
During the roundtables, participants will discuss various aspects of Tajikistan’s penitentiary system, including:
– Improving living conditions, organizing labor activities, and providing vocational training for prisoners;
– Enhancing the quality of healthcare services, expanding social and psychological rehabilitation, and promoting educational work with inmates;
– Ensuring the effective application of non-custodial sentences and supporting the social reintegration of individuals released from places of detention;
– Addressing staffing and social welfare issues for employees of the penal system.
These events are held within the framework of implementing Tajikistan’s Strategy for the Reform of the Penal System until 2030, which highlights the importance of strengthening interagency and civil society cooperation.
This initiative is supported by the Swiss Cooperation Office in Tajikistan and the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF).
