Discussions and Lectures: Human Rights and Prevention of Torture

Every day, from June 16 to June 17, 2025, from 10:00 to 12:00, on the platform https://meet.jit.si/TortureIsACrimeTJ, there were conducted discussions and delivered lectures on the human rights and prevention of torture.

More than 50 persons, from among the civil society, mass media, human rights activists, lawyers, and other stakeholders, attended the event.

The purpose of the event was to deepen knowledge of participants on international and national human rights protection mechanisms, discuss torture counteraction practices and encourage public participation in prevention of cruel treatment.

Discussions and lectures touched upon the following themes:

  • Human Rights: Universal Values and Legal Obligations
  • What is Torture: Legal Definition and Actual Consequences
  • International Documents: UN Convention against Torture, Universal Human Rights Declaration
  • Role of the Civil Society in Combatting Impunity
  • National Examples: Challenges and Achi17evements in Tajikistan

Meeting Formats: Interactive lectures with human rights activists and lawyers, as well as hands-on mini-workshops: how to lodge a complaint, where to apply, how to respond to cruel treatment.

At the end of the event, participants were able to receive free legal counseling assistance from lawyers of the Coalition against Torture and Impunity in Tajikistan.
