The World Human Rights Day

The World Human Rights Day is one of the key dates in international red-letter day system aimed to deepening respect for every human dignity and liberties. The Human Rights Day is celebrated every year on December 10. It is timed to coincide with the date of assuming one of the most important obligations in the world – The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which has been adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in Paris on December 10, 1948. It is this document that - for the first time - has set forth the fundamental human rights subject to general protection.

The Coalition against Torture and Impunity in Tajikistan, in memorial of the World Human Rights Day, has held the following activities:

Around 100 persons have been consulted within the wide range of issues of their concern — from taxation of property and procedure of appealing against civil servants’ actions to situations related to using of force, as well as problems of housing, civil and criminal nature. All those applicants have received contact information whereby, in appropriate cases, they could submit documents and receive secondary legal assistance after their consideration. Thus, calendars have become not only a useful desktop tool, but also serve as a permanent reminder of the value of freedom, equality and protection against cruel treatment.

Calendars also contain contact information of the Coalition, where every person can approach for free legal assistance regarding torture, cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment. This is particularly significant for those persons who encounter violations and need support, but don’t know where to approach with their concerns.
