Radio broadcasts and legal advice as part of the campaign “Stop tortures and impunity!”

Radio broadcasts on freedom from torture have been held on the “Avtoradio” and radio “Asia Plus”.

Within the framework of the campaign “Stop tortures and impunity” dedicated to International Day in support of victims of torture which is celebrated annually on June 26, “Avtoradio” and radio “Asia Plus” had radio broadcast on freedom from torture.  

On May 25, 2022, Mutriba Alijanova, lawyer of Public Fund “Legal Initiatives” who are members of Civil Society Coalition against torture and impunity in Tajikistan were guests of the program “Rosto” held by Avtoradio and radio Asia Plus from 11:00 to 12:00.

On May 26, 2022, there was a live radio broadcast of radio “Asia Plus” from 13:00 to 14:00 as part of daytime show “My rights”. Husniddin Nidoev from the Department of Public Protection of Civil and Political rights of the Office of Ombudsman for human rights in the Republic of Tajikistan, Shoira Davlatova Director PO "Independent Center for Human Rights Protection"and Abdurahmon Sharipov – lawyer of Public Organization “Independent Center for human rights”, member of Civil society Coalition against torture and impunity in Tajikistan were guests of the live broadcast.


Experts shared information about recommendations of the Committee against torture for the Republic of Tajikistan and what activities have been undertaken by the government to implement the recommendations. Experts also responded to numerous questions of radio audience who were interested in what is the difference between torture and abusive treatment, what is the purpose of torture, where the torture most likely take place, whether amnesty is applied in respect of persons guilty in using torture and etc.

The purpose of the event is legal education and education of the population in accordance with international norms and legislation of the Republic of Tajikistan in the field of freedom from torture.  It is expected that the event will facilitate joining efforts and requirements on public authorities on “zero tolerance” policy making for torture in Tajikistan through the media.
