Conducting an online campaign on the Coalition's social media pages

From June 16 to June 23, 2022, on the website of the Coalition against Torture and Impunity in Tajikistan and the Coalition's social media pages, one quote from representatives of state bodies and well-known persons about the prohibition of the use of torture was posted daily. The information was accompanied by contact details, which can be used in case of torture and inhuman treatment. In particular,

"Given the supreme value of human rights and freedoms, I firmly declare that no law enforcement employee has the right to use torture or degrading treatment by any means."

Founder of peace and national unity, Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, 10.11.2012 (from a speech on the occasion of the "Tajik Police Day")

"Put an end to the use of torture against detainees on suspicion of committing certain crimes, as well as persons serving sentences in prisons of Tajikistan, and to stop non-regulatory relations in the ranks of the Tajik army."

Speaker of the Upper House of the Parliament of Tajikistan Rustam Emomali

“No one denies the existence of certain facts of torture. Torture exists even in the most developed countries of the world. The clear will to stop the torture must be confirmed by real actions."

Prosecutor General of the Republic of Tajikistan, Yusuf Rahmon Ahmadzoda

“There are many ways to solve a crime. There are operative, investigative and other ways to solve crimes with the help of citizens. I always emphasize that let 100 crimes remain unsolved, but never resort to the use of torture to force someone to confess to a crime.”

Minister of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan Ramazon Rahimzoda

"The use of torture against detainees poses a major problem. Unfortunately, despite the efforts of the Government and civil society to prevent this heinous act, such facts still exist."

Chairman of the Supreme Court of Tajikistan Shermuhammad Shohiyon

"Absolute and comprehensive prohibition of torture and abusive treatment" – it`s not like a declarative slogan that can be repeated periodically at international conferences. This requires political will, willingness to make hard decisions and face an unpleasant truth."

UN Special Rapporteur on torture Nils Meltzer
